HOW DO I GET HELP WITH JUST ABOUT ANYTHING?

CIC “community teams” are your one-stop shop to solve any issues you encounter or to answer any questions you have. To contact your team, email helpme[floor number]@cic.us, e.g. helpme3@cic.us if you’re on the 3rd floor, or helpme14@cic.us if you’re on the 14th floor, etc.

Or just stop by the team offices in person! We love visits, and start to get sick of just seeing each other all the time.

ACCESSING THE SPACE

WHAT ARE CIC’S HOURS?

CIC is a 24/7 facility, and because we know that entrepreneurs work all hours of the day (and night) there will always be coffee in the coffee machines, food in the kitchens, and paper in the printers. You can even take a shower on the 4th or 14th floors.

The concierge and community teams are here 9-5 (though you can sometimes catch a straggler or two earlier or later than that).

HOW DO I GET ACCESS FOR A NEW EMPLOYEE?

Below is the list of information we need to know when a new employee joins your team. You can email this information to your community team (e.g., helpme14@cic.us if you are on the 14th floor). If you let us know you have a new employee coming ahead of time, we can make sure to have their key ready for their first day.

We need the following information to add someone to our system:

  • Full name
  • Email address
  • Mobile Phone
  • Start date
  • Position / frequency of being in the office
  • Does this person need an office phone?

WHERE CAN I GET MY MAIL AND SEND LETTERS?

Our Mail Room is located on the 14th floor near the Concierge area. Each company is provided with a mail folder. Inside the mail room on the left, you will find our letter mail slot for outgoing USPS mail. Incoming mail typically arrives around noon and is sorted by 3pm. Outgoing mail is picked up by the USPS every weekday around 4:00 PM.

If you follow the way finding signs towards the Somerville conference room, also on the 14th floor, you will find our Package Shelves. This is where we store your packages after processing. You will need your Venture Cafe Charlie Card to access the locked doors. Packages are alphabetized with the "A's" starting at the farthest door.

On the opposite hall near the Cambridgeside conference room, you will find our Large Package area for oversized or especially heavy deliveries, our Outgoing Package area, which accepts FedEx Express, FedEx Ground/Home and UPS pickups, and our Mail Supplies area, that has everything from carrier-specific address slips and padded envelopes to packing tape and scales.

When you receive a package, you'll also receive an email from mail@cictr.com with the subject line indicating where in the mail room your package is located (i.e. [CIC Package] Mail Room at One Broadway, [CIC Package] Package Shelves at One Broadway). 

HOW CAN I SHIP A PACKAGE FROM CIC?

Clients are responsible for paying for and printing their own shipping labels (www.fedex.com and www.ups.com to set up accounts), but may leave labeled outgoing packages in our mail room. See below for pick­-up and drop-­off times:

For USPS packages you may drop them off at the post office across the street at 250 Main Street.

CAN CIC FORWARD MY MAIL TO AN OFFSITE LOCATION?

Mail forwarding is a service we provide to clients who have moved out recently and choose to continue to receive mail at One Broadway or are current clients who infrequently visit CIC and prefer to have their mail forwarded to another address. This service covers normal USPS mail (envelopes, magazines, and newspapers). Mail forwarding does not carry an additional CIC service charge for current clients. For clients who have moved out, the service is free for the first 30 days (plus shipping charges) and then carries a $75-per-month service charge thereafter (plus shipping charges), up to 6 months. In both instances, clients provide us with a personal UPS/FedEx account to cover shipping charges and we take care of forwarding the mail on a regular basis (every other week).

GUESTS

WHAT HAPPENS WHEN A GUEST ARRIVES FOR ME?

In order to gain access to CIC, guests will first sign in at the building security desk on the 1st floor (where the security team will ask for a photo ID). They will then be directed to our 14th floor concierge desk, regardless of which floor your individual office is on. The guest will be greeted by a member of our concierge team, who will call to inform you of their arrival.

The concierge desk is always staffed during business hours (9am - 5pm). If your guests arrive outside of business hours, they are welcome to proceed directly to your floor and use the phone in that floor’s lobby to call you.

SHOULD I LET CIC KNOW IF I'M EXPECTING A LARGE GROUP OF GUESTS?

We, as well as building security, appreciate it if you let us know if you are expecting a group of more than 10 guests. If you give us enough notice, we can provide the 1st floor security team with a guest list to speed along the sign-­in process and reduce confusion once guests are in the CIC space. Any CIC staff member can assist you in planning for your group's visit.

ARE THERE OTHER THINGS I SHOULD CONSIDER IF I'M PLANNING A LARGE GATHERING?

CIC Cambridge has a few large meeting rooms and event spaces, some of which you can book yourself at cic.roomzilla.net, and some of which our events team can book for you at cicevents.roomzilla.net. Our events team can be reached at events@cic.us, or you can simply email your community team. You can also find answers to event ­related questions on this page of the FAQ.

Given the demand on our event spaces, you should contact the events team or your community team as soon as possible, as spaces often book up around 2 weeks out.

KITCHENS

IS ALL THIS FOOD REALLY FREE?

You betchya! Go nuts (pun completely intended).

We’ve got a nearly limitless supply of fresh fruit, yogurt, chips, granola bars, cereal, milk, ice cream, nuts, candy, cheese, veggies, juice, soda, seltzer...the list goes on. We just ask that you eat the food here.

If you’re looking for something a little heartier, check out the lunch options on the 4th floor. We bring in a different local restaurant every day of the week so that you can buy a great lunch without wasting any time. If you’d like to bring in your own food, there are private fridges in every kitchen (they’re labeled “private”). Just put the sticker of the week on your food so we know it’s fresh.

CIC’S NETWORK

HOW DO I MEET OTHER PEOPLE DOING COOL STUFF HERE AT CIC? ... OR CONVERSELY, HOW DO I GET MY NAME OUT THERE TO SHOW OFF THE COOL STUFF I’M DOING?

There are so many awesome people doing awesome things here, it’s out of control, and we believe that physical proximity to other entrepreneurs has a compounding effect on any one individual’s energy, problem-solving abilities, and access to resources. That’s kind of why CIC exists in the first place.

There are plenty of ways to meet others:

  • The Venture Café is a non­-profit organization born out of the need to address this question. The weekly Venture Café event takes place every Thursday from 3pm­ - 8pm on the 5th floor. In addition to the free beer/wine, we see an average of 300-­400 people attending ,­everyone from CIC clients to venture capitalists to volunteers to corporate sponsors to delegations from foreign countries to people outside of our network who have simply heard about what’s going on. It’s a great place to meet people and find out what others are working on. It’s also where money, ideas, and talent are all in the same room.

  • Our kitchens are where most people on the same floor will inevitably run into each other. You like Chees-Its? I like Chees-Its too!

  • We have a ton of public events, where you can meet others solving specific types of problems. Check out the public events calendar here.

  • All CIC clients will receive an invitation to our LinkedIn group; feel free to start a conversation there. If you haven’t received the invitation yet, contact the concierge team.

  • We’re working on a technology-based tool so you can find out what kind of work different CIC companies are doing. Stay tuned for more info on that. But in the meantime, feel free to talk to any staff member if you’d like to be introduced to any specific company (or any company working in a specific field).

HOW DO I LEVERAGE CIC’S NETWORK IN MY HIRING/RECRUITING EFFORTS?

Some of the best recruiting connections are made through personal and professional networks. Talk to your neighbors in the kitchen, post on the “jobs” bulletins on every CIC floor, or let people know about openings through CIC’s LinkedIn group! We hope these resources are used so that people here can recommend friends or previous coworkers for open positions (we’re not down with recruiting employees away from your neighbors here at CIC).
