HOW DO I CONNECT TO THE WIFI?

You can connect to “CIC" and "CIC­A" from anywhere at CIC without a password. CIC­A provides a more reliable connection, but requires that your device (computer, phone, tablet, etc.) be able to communicate over that spectrum. It simply won’t show up as an option if your device is incapable of connecting to it, so choose “CIC” if you don’t see “CIC­A.”

We disable peer-­to­-peer trafficking*, so that devices on our network cannot see other devices, and programs like FireSheep cannot intercept your data.  This measure provides good security to our clients, but strongly encourage the use of secure (https) websites for any sensitive or confidential information.

*This is different from Skype and other VoIP services, which work fine on our network.

CAN I SETUP MY OWN WIRELESS NETWORK/ACCESS POINT?

To minimize interference with the wireless network that most people at CIC use, we do not allow people to set up their own Wi­Fi hotspots. However, If you have a business critical need for your own wireless network, we have workarounds. Simply reach out to your community team to start that discussion.

WHAT DO I DO IF MY COMPUTER SUDDENLY DISCONNECTS FROM THE NETWORK?

Our networks are pretty solid (not to toot our own horn), and it’s rare for us to have building-wide issues. That said, it sometimes happens. Just stop by your community team’s office to alert us of the issue!

We also have a network management system that identifies virus and malware-related traffic, it will lock down individual computers if the network traffic could threaten other devices connected to the network. If your computer has been kicked off the network because of this, we can get you back online once the source of the problem has been removed from your computer. Just contact us if you can’t connect and we can help you through it.

PHONES

CAN I HAVE A DESKTOP PHONE?

Yes!  For each on-­site employee, you're entitled to a phone. Additional phones, with their own number and voicemail, are available for $25/month.

HOW DO I MAKE A CONFERENCE CALL?

Place or receive a call.  Two parties are now on the call.  While you are on the first call, press “Conf” (if you don’t see “Conf”, press “More”, then you’ll see “Conf”).  Listen for the dial tone, then dial the third party, wait for that party to answer, and press “Conf” again to complete the 3­-party conference call.

HOW DO I ARRANGE TO HOST A CONFERENCE CALL WITH MORE THAN FOUR PARTIES?

The limit for conference calls for the CIC phone system is 3 members (so you, and 2 other parties). If you need to do larger conference calls, then we recommend a third party company who will host your call. There are many different companies that you can arrange this through, but as a reference some CIC clients use freeconferencecall.com, which is a free service.

HOW DO I SET MY PHONE FORWARDING, CHANGE MY VOICEMAIL-­TO­-EMAIL SETTINGS, OR RESET MY PIN?

Go to thinkingphones.com and click “Customer Portal” at the top. If you don’t know your login information, simply contact your community support team (helpme114@cic.us if you’re on the 14th floor, for instance).

HOW DO I ADD A CIC PRINTER TO MY SYSTEM?

Our printing website, of course! Find it at printing.cic.us.

You can find detailed instructions and driver downloads for the copiers and printers on this website. If you have any trouble with those instructions (or if you notice errors in the installation process), please email your floor's “helpme” email address (e.g. helpme114@cic.us for the 14th floor).

HOW MUCH AM I ALLOWED TO PRINT?

Like most things at CIC, printing is a shared community resource. We have un-metered printing, but not unlimited printing. If you print like most of our members, you may have frequent needs for low volume print jobs, and a large print job every once in a while. That’s a­-okay.

If you regularly need to print large jobs (over 100 pages), particularly in color, we ask that you bring your print jobs to a local print shop. Kendall Press offers all CIC clients a 10% discount, or you could use a service like Mimeo that will print, bind, and ship you the end product at a competitive cost, or you can use any of these local area print shops: 

HOW DO I SCAN A DOCUMENT TO MYSELF?

All of our copiers (we have 1 color copier and 1 black and white copier on every floor) can scan to email. Just click the “Scan to Email” button from the home screen, load your document in the feeder, and input your email address. If this is a frequent task for you, just tell your community team and we can add your email to the copier’s address book.

CAN I "SECURE PRINT" FROM THE COPIERS AT CIC?

Yes! The color copiers and black + white copiers are capable of "secure printing." The process allows you to send a job to the copier which won't print out until you physically go to the machine and type in your password. This is possible once you have the most up­-to-­date drivers installed on your computer from our printing website (printing.cic.us). Here's the process:

  • Once you print and have the printing dialogue pulled up:
    • Change the options selector from "Layout" to "Job Handling"
    • Click the "Retention" checkbox
    • Select "Hold Only" then type in a password. It has to be 5 digits or more.
    • After you click print, go to the printer and push the button "Print from USB" (you don't actually need a USB, that's just what the button is named)
    • Select the "Main Folder" button
    • Click on your file and type in the password to be able to print
    • Once it prints, click on the file again, type in the password again, then click delete to remove it from the printer's memory (it won't automatically delete after it prints out)

FAX

ARE THERE FAX MACHINES HERE?

Yes. The color copiers on the 14th and 15th floors can send outbound faxes. In addition, the 14th floor color copier will receive and print out inbound faxes sent to 617-­714-­5486. If you’d like inbound faxes sent directly to your email, just write to your floor­-specific "helpme" (e.g. helpme114@cic.us if you are on the 14th floor) to request a digital fax line (details below).

CAN I GET A PRIVATE FAX NUMBER AT CIC?

You sure can! We have digital fax numbers that will email you with a PDF of the faxes you receive.

The first fax number for every company is free to setup and maintain. Additional fax numbers cost $25 per month. To request a fax number, please email your community team (e.g. helpme114@cic.us for the 14th floor).
