WHAT IS THE WIRELESS NETWORK AND PASSWORD AT CIC?
You can use either the "CIC" or "CIC-A" network—no password required. To ensure your communication is secure and private, use only encrypted "https" websites (most are).
You are also welcome to use the "CIC-Encrypted" WPA2 network—password "fix the world through [our middle name]" (with spaces)—but please be aware that this does not provide added privacy versus a skilled hacker.
We disable peer-to-peer trafficking* on all of our networks so that devices cannot see each other, and programs like FireSheep cannot intercept your data.
*This is different from Skype and other VoIP services, which work fine on our network.
CAN I SET Up MY OWN WIRELESS NETWORK/ACCESS POINT?
No. To minimize interference with the common wireless network used by nearly everyone at CIC, we do not allow clients to set up their own WiFi hotspots. However, if you have a business-critical need for your own wireless network, we can assist you; simply reach out to your community team to start that discussion.
WHAT DO I DO IF MY COMPUTER SUDDENLY DISCONNECTS FROM THE NETWORK?
Computers may suddenly disconnect for a number of reasons, the least serious of which is being too far away from your original WiFiaccess point. If you are having trouble connecting, try turning your WiFi off and on to reconnect to a closer access point.
Our networks are pretty robust (not to toot our own horn), and it’s rare for us to have building-wide issues. That said, it sometimes happens. Just stop by your community team’s office to alert us of the issue!
We also have a network management system that identifies virus and malware-related traffic, and will lock down individual computers if the network traffic could threaten other connected devices. If your computer has been kicked off the network because of this, we can get you back online once the source of the problem has been removed from your computer. Just contact us if you can’t connect and we can help you through it.
HOW DO I ADD A CIC PRINTER TO MY SYSTEM?
There are black & white and color options for printing at CIC Boston on every floor. You can find installation instructions and drivers at bit.ly/cicbostonprint (Floors 11-12) or printing.cic.us (Floors 14-18). Should these instructions give you any trouble, email your floor’s “helpmeboston” address and and we can assist you.
CAN I "SECURE PRINT" FROM THE COPIERS AT CIC?
Yes! All of our printers are capable of "secure printing." The process allows you to send a job to the printer that won't print out until you physically go to the machine and type in your password. Questions? Email your friendly CIC community team at your floor's “helpmeboston” address.
IS THERE A SHREDDER AVAILABLE?
Yes! There are small shredders available in almost every floor's print center.
ARE THERE ANY FAX MACHINES AVAILABLE?
Yes! Our 11th and 16th floor color printers have outbound faxing capabilities, which is an option on the first page of the home screen. If you require inbound faxes, email your floor’s "helpmeboston" address (e.g., email@example.com if you are on the 17th floor) and request a fax line that delivers directly to your email (see details below).
CAN I GET A PRIVATE FAX NUMBER AT CIC?
You sure can! We have digital fax numbers that will email you with a PDF of the faxes you receive.
The first fax number for every company is free to setup and maintain. Additional fax numbers cost $25 per month. To request a fax number, email your floor’s “helpmeboston” address ( e.g., firstname.lastname@example.org for the 14th floor).
CAN I HAVE A DESKTOP PHONE?
Yes! For each regular employee, a phone line and a physical device are included in the service fee. Additional lines or desktop devices are available for $25/month and conference phone devices for $35/month.
HOW DO I MAKE A CONFERENCE CALL?
1. Place or receive a call. Two parties are now on the call.
2. While you are on the first call, press “Conf” (if you don’t see “Conf”, press “More”, then you’ll see “Conf”).
3. Listen for the dial tone, then dial the third party. Wait for that party to answer and press “Conf” again to connect all three parties.
4. If you have two people calling in on different lines, you can combine the calls by pressing ‘more’ and then ‘combine’ on your phone.
The limit for conference calls for the CIC phone system is three members (you and two other parties). If you need to do larger conference calls, then we recommend a third-party company to host them. There are many different companies you can arrange this through, but as a reference some CIC clients use freeconferencecall.com.
HOW DO I SET MY PHONE TO FORWARDING, CHANGE MY VOICEMAIL-TO-EMAIL SETTINGS, OR RESET MY PIN?
Go to fuze.com and click “Customer Portal” at the top. Once you've logged in, you'll have access to a number of options. If you don’t know your login information, simply email your floor’s “helpmeboston” address (e.g., email@example.com if you’re on the 12th floor).
